Antique Harp Strings

Antique harps are as individual as the hands that have played them, and choosing the right strings can make all the difference to both tone and tension.
As a general rule, we recommend light gauge gut strings to minimise stress on older instruments. For single-action harps, many specialists suggest stringing an octave higher than standard—for example, using 1st octave strings in the 2nd octave, 2nd octave strings in the 3rd, and so on.
For very old harps, especially single-action models, our gut core silver-wound strings are a reliable choice for the bass wires. These offer a warm, stable tone with lower tension, helping to preserve the integrity of your instrument.
